#WhatWouldYouInsure Winner!

Bidvest Insurance covering Pollard’s right foot sparks Pretoria man to want to insure left testicle

The news about Handré Pollard, South Africa’s starting flyhalf, having his right kicking foot insured for an astounding R2 000 000 got people talking amid rugby’s biggest tournament getting under way. Further interest from the public was piqued with Bidvest Insurance’s #WhatWouldYouInsure competition asking for South Africans to comment on social media about the unusual things they would insure if they could – which included a left testicle, Hugh Bladen’s voice and even chest hairs!

After some heart-warming stories, accompanied by some equally entertaining ones, Marc Curlewis from Pretoria was chosen as the overall winner of the #WhatWouldYouInsure competition. Like Pollard, Curlewis stated that he would also insure a particular body part which saw him walk away with a signed jersey from Pollard as well as two complimentary season tickets to his favourite South African rugby stadium for the 2016 season. Curlewis, who is a testicular cancer survivor, entered the competition saying that after losing his right testicle his left one would without a doubt be an item that he would insure if it was possible. “After giving it a lot of thought, I think testicles are quite an important part of any guy’s anatomy and I definitely want to have children with my wife sometime soon, so I would have to look out for my one remaining testicle to make that happen,” said an excited Curlewis.

The runners up of the competition, who would insure anything from their eyesight to Hugh Bladen’s voice, were Dean Wallenkamp, Wade Pretorius and Mandisi Khumalo. Marketing Manager of Bidvest Insurance Group, Lucy Cooke was delighted with how the competition sparked such an overwhelming response from the public. “Bidvest Insurance is not only a proud supporter of our country’s rugby players, but of local South Africans too! With lots of famous celebrities and sportsmen having insured various bodyparts in the past, it was an interesting question to pose to people about what important thing they would insure if they were given the opportunity. The great thing about this competition is that it really started getting people thinking about how important it is to insure things that are valuable to them – from common household items to life insurance. Bidvest Insurance really does strive to understand our customers’ needs and our dedication to innovation, insight and integrity is central to our business and it’s what separates us from the rest” stated Cooke.
